A premiere for the Netherlands and for Stedelijk Museum Schiedam: Yves Klein and His Artist Family Fred, Marie and Rotraut brings together, for the first time, the oeuvres of the Klein family. For the very first time in the Netherlands, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam is presenting the extraordinary story and combined bodies of work of the artist Yves Klein (1928-1962) and his artistic family members: his father Fred Klein (1898-1990), his mother Marie Raymond (1908-1988), and his partner Rotraut Uecker (1938). Yves Klein is famous around the world for his iconic monochrome paintings, but not many people will know that his family members were successful artists in their own right and that Rotraut is still active as an artist.
The first ever focus on the Klein family of artists
The exhibition not only highlights the artistic exchange between the family members, but also zooms in on the Klein family’s ties to the Netherlands, specifically to Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, which houses a collection of works by Fred Klein in the Netherlands. For the first time in 65 years, thirty works by Yves Klein and more than forty works by his parents and partner are on display in the Netherlands.
